In this blog, Manuel Grieder, Deborah Kistler and Jan Schmitz draw on a field experiment with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Switzerland, and explain that even minor administrative hurdles – known as "sludge" – can significantly reduce take-up of sustainable practices.
